Overview

Feral Cat is our pick for leveling a Druid in WoW Forever. Cat Form costs no mana, so you fight until your health runs out instead of your mana bar, and you heal yourself back up between pulls. Forever's new Feral talents make that loop much stronger than it was in Classic: King of the Jungle refills 60 Energy with every Tiger's Fury, Blood Frenzy turns Claw crits into extra combo points, and Feral Charge leaps you behind the mob for a free Shred.

Balance is the strong second choice. Improved Wrath makes Wrath a 1.5-second cast at half cost, Moonglow cuts every damage spell by 25%, and Improved Entangling Roots lets you root a mob and nuke it without the root breaking at once. Balance kills from range and takes less damage; Cat kills faster and never drinks. Both builds carry the full Druid healing kit, so you heal yourself between pulls instead of waiting on a group.

What changed from Classic leveling

  • Bear Form comes from the level 10 class quest Body and Heart, and Aquatic Form from a class quest at 16. Cat Form at 20 and Travel Form at 30 are trained.
  • Omen of Clarity is baseline at 20 and procs from spells too. Nature's Grasp is trained at 10.
  • Wrath is cheap and fast, and Entangling Roots no longer needs the outdoors.
  • Feral Charge is a tier 3 talent that teaches two abilities: a Bear charge that interrupts and immobilizes for 4 seconds (15-second cooldown) and a Cat leap behind the target (30-second cooldown). There's no separate Faerie Fire (Feral) in Forever, but regular Faerie Fire now works in Cat and Bear Form.
  • Tiger's Fury is +15% Physical damage for 6 seconds on a 30-second cooldown, and Furor at 5/5 returns 100% of the Energy you had when you left Cat Form, plus 10 Energy for every second out of your feral forms, up to 100, instead of granting a flat amount.
  • Frenzied Regeneration turns Rage into 1% health per point, a full heal on a 3-minute cooldown.
  • Revive at 12 resurrects party members out of combat. Mark of the Wild lasts an hour and includes Improved Mark of the Wild.
  • Over 1,000 new quests and nine new dungeons join the 1–60 route, so you rarely run out of quests at any level.

Talents

The Cat leveling build. It takes every talent that adds Cat damage, Energy or speed, then Furor and Naturalist in Restoration and Genesis and Nature's Majesty in Balance. You level in Bear Form from 10 to 19 and in Cat Form from 20 to 60.

At 60

Respec to the Feral Combat guide's Cat or Bear build for raids. The leveling build already shares 32 of the Cat build's 35 Feral points.

Abilities by level

Train at every even level. Both builds train every heal, buff and form. Feral skips Starfire, Hurricane and Wrath ranks after 20. Balance skips every Cat and Bear attack rank after 20 except Bash.

Races

Alliance: Night Elf. Quickness adds 2% movement speed and 1% dodge and makes you harder to spot in Prowl. Shadowmeld hides you between pulls with a 10-second cooldown, and Wisp Spirit makes corpse runs 75% faster. Elune's Light adds 10% crit for 15 seconds every 3 minutes for the pull that has to go fast.

Alliance alternative: High Order Skyborne. Skyborne need a Heroic or higher Forever pack. Read Ley Line doubles your health and mana regeneration, for 15 minutes when you find a ley line and 15 seconds anywhere else. That's less time eating and drinking. Wind Blessed adds 1% Haste, and Walk on Air lets you glide off any cliff. Skyborne start on Zephras Isle, which covers levels 1–12.

Horde: Tauren. Plainsrunning builds up to 30% more movement speed while you keep moving, which adds up over a long run between quest objectives. War Stomp stuns up to five mobs for 2 seconds when a pull goes wrong, and Endurance adds 5% health and 1% hit. Cultivation grows a duplicate of a nearby herb that you can harvest without Herbalism, once per herb, as long as your level is at least a fifth of the herb's level.

Horde alternative: Windshaper Skyborne. Skysight adds 10% movement and mounted speed, Wind Blessed adds 1% Haste, and Elemental Insight adds 5% damage against Elementals.

Leveling rotation

Levels 1–10: caster

Pull with Wrath, cast Moonfire as the mob runs in, and Wrath it down. Rejuvenation between pulls keeps you from sitting.

Levels 10–19: Bear Form

  1. Pull with Wrath or Moonfire and shift into Bear Form as the mob arrives.
  2. Demoralizing Roar when two or more mobs are on you.
  3. Spend Rage on Maul. It costs 10 Rage once Ferocity reaches 5/5 at 14.
  4. From 12, Enrage on the pull gives you Rage to open with.
  5. From 14, Bash stuns a caster or a mob about to flee.

Levels 20–31: Cat Form

  1. Approach in Prowl. From 24, Feral Charge leaps you behind the mob.
  2. From 22, open with Shred from behind. Otherwise open with Claw, or Rake from 24.
  3. Build combo points with Claw.
  4. Finish with Rip at 3 or more combo points on a healthy mob. Claw a mob that's almost dead instead.
  5. Tiger's Fury from 24 on every pull. It's free.

Levels 32–60: the full Cat loop

  1. Prowl in and open with Ravage from behind (from 32), or Pounce (from 36) on a mob that hits hard: it stuns for 2 seconds and bleeds.
  2. Rake if the mob isn't bleeding yet. From 37, Rend and Tear adds damage to every melee ability while a bleed ticks.
  3. Claw, or Shred when you're behind the mob.
  4. Ferocious Bite at 4–5 combo points to kill. Save Rip for mobs with lots of health.
  5. From 36, Tiger's Fury gives 60 Energy. Use it when you're under 40 Energy.
  6. From 42, Berserk makes every generator crit for 15 seconds. Save it for elites and for pulls of two or three.

Two or more mobs

Shift to Bear Form. Demoralizing Roar weakens them, Swipe hits three at once, and Frenzied Regeneration from 36 turns your Rage into health if it gets close. Tauren War Stomp buys two seconds to shift back to Cat for the last mob.

Downtime

  • Shift out, cast Rejuvenation and Regrowth, and eat while they tick. From 48, Furor gives you all your Energy back when you shift back in.
  • Keep Mark of the Wild and Thorns on yourself. Thorns damages everything that swings at you (11 Nature damage per hit at rank 3).
  • Travel Form at 30 carries you between quests outdoors.

Stat priority

Feral (Cat)

  1. Agility
  2. Strength
  3. Stamina
  4. Critical Strike

Balance

  1. Spell Power
  2. Intellect
  3. Stamina
  4. Spirit

Cat Form gives you Attack Power equal to your Agility, and Agility adds crit and dodge on top. Strength adds Attack Power in every feral form and gains up to 10% from Heart of the Wild. Balance wants Spell Power first: at low levels even a few points are a big share of every Wrath. Healing gear now also grants spell damage equal to a third of its healing value, so a healing piece is a damage upgrade too.

Gear and weapons

Weapons

Druids use staves, maces, daggers and fist weapons. As a Cat, take a two-handed staff or mace with Strength and Agility, and replace it every time a quest offers a better one. As Balance, take a staff or a mace and off-hand with Spell Power. In Forever, caster weapons roll Spell Power on their level upgrades, so a caster weapon at the right level is a real power spike.

Armor

Wear leather with Agility and Strength as a Cat, and leather or cloth with Spell Power and Intellect as Balance. Leatherworkers craft the Wolfshead Helm, a level 40 helm: Tiger's Fury gives 20 more Energy and Enrage 5 more Rage while you wear it, which a Cat feels on every pull.

Professions

Skinning and Leatherworking is the Feral leveling pair. You kill beasts at every level, Skinning turns them into leather, and Leatherworking turns the leather into armor and the Wolfshead Helm at 40.

Herbalism and Skinning is the gold pair for both builds. Tauren can also Cultivate a duplicate of an herb, once per herb.

Cooking is worth leveling alongside either pair. Crafted food gives a Well Fed buff and a small experience bonus, and every player can build a Basic Campfire, the starting point of Forever's camping system.

Dungeons along the way

Forever adds nine dungeons to the Classic lineup. Feral Druids tank them in Bear Form. Balance Druids bring damage, Rebirth and a backup healer. The full dungeon list links every dungeon that has a guide page.

Levels below are each dungeon's level range. Start a dungeon in the low end of its range.

The Excavation Site, City of Dalaran and The Drowned City aren't open in the beta yet. Four more new dungeons are announced without level ranges or opening dates: Krol'dok Stronghold in the Riverglades, Alcaz Prison in Dustwallow Marsh, Blackmaw Hold in northern Azshara and Shaper's Terrace in Un'Goro Crater. Read the dungeons and raids guide for the whole route.

Class quests

Three class quest chains teach six of your abilities: Teleport: Moonglade, Bear Form, Maul, Growl, Cure Poison and Aquatic Form. None of them come from the trainer, so do each chain the level it opens. Alliance and Horde run the same steps with their own quest givers: Mathrengyl Bearwalker in the Cenarion Enclave of Darnassus for the Alliance, and Turak Runetotem on the Elder Rise of Thunder Bluff for the Horde.

Level 10: the bear chain

This is one five-step chain, and it's the most important quest you'll do before 20. It ends with Bear Form, your tanking and survival form for the whole game.

  1. Heeding the Call (Alliance) or Heeding the Call (Horde). Speak with Mathrengyl Bearwalker or Turak Runetotem.
  2. Moonglade (Alliance) or Moonglade (Horde). This step teaches Teleport: Moonglade. Cast it to travel to Moonglade and speak with Dendrite Starblaze in the village of Nighthaven.
  3. Great Bear Spirit (Alliance) or Great Bear Spirit (Horde). Seek out the Great Bear Spirit in northwestern Moonglade and hear what it has to share about the nature of the bear, then return to Dendrite Starblaze.
  4. Back to Darnassus (Alliance) or Back to Thunder Bluff (Horde). Return to Mathrengyl Bearwalker in Darnassus or Turak Runetotem in Thunder Bluff.
  5. Body and Heart (Alliance) or Body and Heart (Horde). Alliance Druids use the Cenarion Moondust on the Moonkin Stone of Auberdine, and Horde Druids use the Cenarion Lunardust on the Moonkin Stone between Mulgore and the Barrens. Either brings forth Lunaclaw: face it, earn the strength of body and heart it possesses, and report back. Body and Heart teaches Bear Form, Maul and Growl.

Teleport: Moonglade stays useful long after the chain: every later class quest runs through Nighthaven, and the spell takes you there from anywhere.

Level 14: the poison chain

Five steps, and it teaches Cure Poison.

  1. Lessons Anew (Alliance) or Lessons Anew (Horde). Travel to Moonglade and speak with Dendrite Starblaze in Nighthaven.
  2. The water sample. Alliance Druids take The Principal Source: use the Empty Cliffspring Falls Sampler at the mouth of the cave by the falls and deliver the filled sampler to Alanndarian Nightsong in Auberdine, Darkshore. Horde Druids take The Principal Source: fill the Empty Dreadmist Peak Sampler from a pool at the top of the peak and deliver it to Tonga Runetotem at the Crossroads in the Barrens.
  3. Gathering the Cure. Alliance Druids bring 5 Earthroot and 12 Lunar Fungus to Alanndarian Nightsong in Gathering the Cure. Horde Druids bring 5 Earthroot and 5 Kodo Horns to Tonga Runetotem in Gathering the Cure. Either one makes the curative salve.
  4. Curing the Sick. Use the Curative Animal Salve on 10 sick animals. Alliance Druids find Sickly Deer for Curing the Sick across Darkshore, from south of the Cliffspring River down to the edge of Ashenvale. Horde Druids find Sickly Gazelles for Curing the Sick in the Barrens, north of the east-west road through the Crossroads.
  5. Power over Poison (Alliance) or Power over Poison (Horde). Return to Mathrengyl Bearwalker or Turak Runetotem. Power over Poison teaches Cure Poison.

Pick up Earthroot as you quest from 10 to 14 and the gathering step takes minutes.

Level 16: the sea lion chain

Four steps, and it teaches Aquatic Form.

  1. A Lesson to Learn (Alliance) or A Lesson to Learn (Horde). Speak with Dendrite Starblaze in Nighthaven.
  2. Trial of the Lake (Alliance) or Trial of the Lake (Horde). Find a Shrine Bauble in Lake Elune'ara, use it at the Shrine of Remulos in northwestern Moonglade, then speak with Tajarri at the shrine to complete the trial.
  3. Trial of the Sea Lion (Alliance) or Trial of the Sea Lion (Horde). Find the Half Pendant of Aquatic Agility and the Half Pendant of Aquatic Endurance. The residents of Moonglade give clues to where they are. Join the halves near the Shrine of Remulos and bring the Pendant of the Sea Lion to Dendrite Starblaze.
  4. Aquatic Form (Alliance) or Aquatic Form (Horde). Show the pendant to Mathrengyl Bearwalker or Turak Runetotem. This teaches Aquatic Form: 50% faster swimming and underwater breathing.

Aquatic Form turns every underwater quest objective from a race against your breath bar into a quick swim, so finish this chain before the next zone with a lake or a coastline.

Tips

Heal between pulls, not during them

Shifting out of form mid-fight costs mana, a global cooldown and all your Rage. Top yourself up with Rejuvenation and Regrowth before the next pull instead, and eat while they tick.

Furor changed

Furor no longer gives flat Energy when you shift into Cat Form. At 5/5 it returns 100% of the Energy you left with, plus 10 Energy for every second out of your feral forms, up to 100. That's what you'd have regenerated anyway, so shifting just to refill Energy gains nothing.

Rebirth is for the fight, Revive is for after. Revive from 12 costs less mana and needs no reagent. Rebirth works in combat but has a 30-minute cooldown.

Use Travel Form outdoors from 30. It's 40% faster than walking and breaks snares when you shift.

Keep Thorns on yourself. Every mob that hits you takes Nature damage: 22 per hit at rank 6.

Train Tiger's Fury at 24 and finish King of the Jungle at 36. Together they're 60 free Energy every 30 seconds.
