Guide
How PvP progression works in WoW Forever: Honor and its 25,000 cap, Rank Points and the weekly cap, every rank from 1 to 14 with its reward, the blue and epic PvP sets, Emboldened Seals, season journeys, Legacy challenges and the four battlegrounds.

PvP progression in Forever runs on two tracks that fill at the same time. Honor is money: you spend it on PvP gear. Rank Points are standing: they move you up the fourteen original ranks, and each rank unlocks its own reward. Both come from the same places, so every battleground win and every enemy you kill pushes both bars forward.
Rank Points are capped each week, so the climb rewards steady play: a player with a few evenings a week reaches the same ranks as one who never logs off, just later.
You earn Honor by:
Battleground payouts are balanced so that every battleground is worth your time, not just the longest one. During holiday weeks one battleground is highlighted and pays extra Honor and Rank Points, so check which one before you queue.
You can hold at most 25,000 Honor. Anything you earn above that is lost, so spend before you reach the cap. Gear and the upgrade tokens are priced in Honor and they are not cheap: plan which pieces you want first and buy as soon as you can afford them.
The Legacy perk For Great Honor in the Resourcefulness tree raises the Honor you earn by 2% per rank, up to 10% at 5 of 5. It needs 5 points spent in Resourcefulness first.
Rank Points come from the same activities as Honor and also get the holiday-week bonus. They fill a bar towards your next rank, and they are capped every week. Once you hit the cap, more PvP still earns Honor, but your rank waits for the weekly reset.
Hitting the cap every week takes you to Rank 14 in ten weeks.
Open your character pane (C) and pick the Player vs. Player tab to see your rank, your progress to the next one and what you have earned this week.
Each rank has an Alliance and a Horde title. Reaching a rank unlocks its reward at your faction's PvP vendors.
| Rank: Alliance / Horde | Reward |
|---|---|
| 1: Private / Scout | Tabard |
| 2: Corporal / Grunt | PvP trinket |
| 3: Sergeant / Sergeant | Cloaks |
| 4: Master Sergeant / Senior Sergeant | Necklace |
| 5: Sergeant Major / First Sergeant | Combat potions |
| 6: Knight / Stone Guard | Tabard |
| 7: Knight-Lieutenant / Blood Guard | Battle Standard |
| 8: Knight-Captain / Legionnaire | Epic bracers and epic belt seals |
| 9: Knight-Champion / Centurion | Epic boots seal |
| 10: Lieutenant Commander / Champion | Epic gloves seal |
| 11: Commander / Lieutenant General | Mounts |
| 12: Marshal / General | Epic legs and epic shoulders seals |
| 13: Field Marshal / Warlord | Epic chest and epic helm seals |
| 14: Grand Marshal / High Warlord | Epic weapons |
The PvP trinket at Rank 2 is the first real priority: it breaks you out of crowd control, and you will want it in every fight from then on.
Honor buys two sets of PvP armor for every class.
The blue set is the first goal. Buy it with Honor, piece by piece, as you near level 60. Its Stamina keeps you alive long enough to matter, and you need each blue piece later anyway.
You don't buy an epic piece outright. You upgrade the matching blue piece with an Emboldened Seal for that slot, paid in Honor. Each seal unlocks at a rank: the bracers and belt seals at Rank 8, up to the chest and helm seals at Rank 13.
New and reworked pieces cover specs the old sets ignored. Shamans, for example, choose between a healer, a melee and a caster set.
PvP runs in seasons. Each season comes with a journey: a list of weekly tasks that pay Honor and Rank Points on top of what you earn by playing. Do the week's tasks before the reset, since they are the easiest Rank Points you will get.
Three of the journey's tasks also award a Legacy Point: finishing weeks 4, 7 and 10 of the Field of Honor journey. If you miss them, they stay available in later seasons.
PvP is worth 12 Legacy Points, the largest share after class leveling and professions.
| Challenge | Points |
|---|---|
| Reach Rank 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14 | 5, one per rank |
| Exalted with each battleground's reputation | 4: Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin, Alterac Valley and Darkspear Islands |
| Field of Honor journey, weeks 4, 7 and 10 | 3 |
Rank 3 is the cheapest point in the whole Legacy system for a level 60 character: a few evenings of battlegrounds. The Legacy guide covers every other challenge and how to spend your points.
Every battleground hands out its own Mark of Honor. Marks stack to 30, so you can bank a full stack per battleground before turning them in for reputation quests.
Four battlegrounds are open from launch. You queue at a battlemaster in any capital city, and you play against players at a similar level.
| Battleground | Who can queue |
|---|---|
| Warsong Gulch | From level 10. Capture the flag. |
| Arathi Basin | From level 20. Hold resource nodes. |
| Darkspear Islands | Levels 30 to 60. 15 against 15, four capture points and a flag. |
| Alterac Valley | Levels 51 to 60. The large-scale battle for the valley. |
Darkspear Islands is new in Forever: the Darkspear Islands guide covers its rules, map plan and reputation rewards.
Battlegrounds mix players from every ruleset except Hardcore. You don't need a PvP ruleset character to climb the ranks.
On the PvP and Roleplay-PvP rulesets, players of the other faction can attack you anywhere outside the safe zones, and killing them earns Honor and Rank Points. Even your campfire is no shelter there.
Each account plays one faction per PvP ruleset. Your first character on it decides which, so agree on a side with your friends before anyone creates a character. The rulesets guide explains the full rules for each ruleset.
