How experience works in WoW Forever: quest, kill and dungeon XP, how rested XP builds in inns and at a camp, Well Fed food, the Cozy Sleeping Bag, the Legacy perks that speed leveling and a routine for reaching 60.

Experience in Forever works the way you remember, with a few changes that decide how you should spend your hours. Quests carry you, dungeons are a stop along the way, and resting is worth planning for. This guide covers each source, how rested experience builds, and the small buffs that add up over 60 levels.
| Source | What to know |
|---|
| Quests | The backbone. A quest pays a fixed amount, rested or not, and the reward grows with the quest's level. |
|---|---|
| Kills in the open world | Paid by the monster's level against yours. Rested doubles it. Food adds 5%. |
| Kills in a dungeon | 20% more than the same monster would give outside. |
| Dungeon quests | Still better than an ordinary quest of their level, but their bonus is cut in half. |
Questing is the fastest way to 60. One clear of each dungeon with its quests in your log keeps pace with questing; running the same dungeon again and again falls behind. The leveling path shows where each dungeon fits, and the dungeons and raids guide lists them by level.
A monster that is grey to you pays no experience, and a quest that has turned grey pays little. Colours are worked out from your own level, so what is grey to you can still be green to a friend a few levels below.
In a dungeon, each player's own level counts. If someone in the group is far above the dungeon's level, nobody gets experience from the kills. Don't ask a max-level friend to pull you through.
While you are rested, every kill pays double experience until the bonus runs out. Quests pay the same either way.
Spend a full bar on monsters at your own level. Grey ones pay nothing, doubled or not.
Forever's camping system lets you top the bar up while you play. The full list of camp features is on the camping page.
Use a Basic Campfire Kit (Cooking 1). The campfire lets up to three players add a camp feature each, and it burns for 15 minutes. Keep camps at least 100 yards apart.
The Camp Tent is a Leatherworking feature from skill 20. Players who sit by the tent for about half a minute have their rested bar raised to 5% of a level.
All camp features share a one-hour cooldown. The tent does nothing while your bar is already above 5%, so use it after you have spent your rested experience.
The Tanning Rack (Leatherworking 140) and the Sewing Machine (300) give the same benefit as a tent while doing their crafting jobs. One leatherworker in the group is enough: everyone sitting at the camp gets the top-up.
The first camping quest, The Great Outdoors at level 5, walks you through it.
| Perk | Effect |
|---|---|
| Field Guide (3 ranks) | Camp feature cooldown is 8%, 17% and 25% shorter. |
| Permanence (2 ranks) | Benefits from resting at a camp last 50% and 100% longer. |
Most cooked food gives a 5% bonus to experience from kills on top of its stats. You need to sit and eat for at least 10 seconds to become Well Fed, and the buff lasts 15 minutes. Cheap food from level 1 does it too, so you can use it all the way up. A few to start with: Slitherskin Mackerel and Roasted Boar Meat for the first levels, Seasoned Wolf Kabob at 15 and Tasty Lion Steak at 25.
The Camp Tent is not the only way to sleep. The Cozy Sleeping Bag stacks Well-Rested up to three times, one stack a minute, and each stack is worth +1% experience from kills and quests. That is 3% for two hours, and it applies to quests too.
| Buff | Bonus |
|---|---|
| Rested | Double experience from kills, until the bar is empty. |
| Well Fed (food) | +5% experience from kills for 15 minutes. |
| Cozy Sleeping Bag | +3% experience from kills and quests for two hours. |
Legacy Points belong to your account and each character spends up to 16. These are the ones that matter for leveling. Plan them in the Legacy planner.
The Legacy guide has the full tree, and Legacy: the fastest 16 points shows where the points come from.
Spend rested experience on real fights. Pull monsters at your level while the bar is up. Skip green and grey ones.
Log out in an inn. Park the character in an inn or a capital at the end of a session, and take Well Rested in Legacy early.
Camp when the bar is empty. Put a tent in every camp and sit down for half a minute once your bar is spent. It comes back an hour later.
Eat before you pull. Food takes seconds, and the 5% lasts a quarter of an hour.
Take every dungeon quest. Do them on the single run of each dungeon, then go back to questing.
No. Rested affects kills only.
It builds while you are logged out, fastest in an inn or a capital. Camps let you raise the bar while you play.
No. Questing is fastest. A single run of each dungeon with its quests keeps up with the rest of your path.
