Overview
The Legacy system is WoW Forever's account-wide progression. You earn Legacy Points by doing things across the whole game: leveling different classes, mastering crafting professions, clearing dungeons and raids, climbing the PvP ranks and exploring. You spend those points on Legacy Perks, small quality-of-life bonuses that make every character faster to level, cheaper to run or better at making gold. It rewards breadth, not raw power: no perk raises your power at level 60.
The system has three parts:
- Legacy Challenges: 65 account-wide goals, each worth one Legacy Point.
- Legacy Perks: three perk trees (Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness) where each character spends its points.
- Legacy Rewards: a toy, a pet, a tabard and a mount, unlocked by the total number of points your account has earned.
Unlocking the system
Legacy unlocks the moment you earn your first Legacy Point. For most players that happens when their first character reaches level 25. Two other challenges also open it: reaching skill 150 in a non-gathering primary profession, or fully exploring the world map.
The 16-point cap
Legacy Points belong to your account, and every character on it shares the same pool. Each character spends at most 16 points, no matter how many your account has earned. An account with 40 points doesn't give one character 40 points of perks. It gives every character the same 16, and lets each of them pick different perks.
That makes Legacy a planning system rather than a grind. Your main and your alts each choose their own 16 from the three trees, so your gathering alt runs a gold build while your main runs a leveling or endgame build.
Legacy Points and collections are shared across every character on your account, except on the Hardcore ruleset. Hardcore is walled off from the rest of your account, Legacy included.
How to earn Legacy Points
There are 65 Legacy Challenges in six categories, worth 65 points in total. A single character can earn 29 of them without ever rolling an alt. The rest come from leveling other classes and learning other professions.
Classes: 27 points
Reach level 25, 45 and 60 with each of the nine classes, one point per milestone. Your first character is worth 3 points on its own, and every alt of a new class adds up to 3 more.
Tradeskills: 18 points
Reach skill 150, 225 and 300 in each of the six non-gathering primary professions: Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking and Tailoring. Gathering professions don't count. A character with two crafting professions at 300 is worth 6 points.
PvP: 12 points
PvP rank achievements, Exalted reputation with the battleground factions, and seasonal PvP quests. This is the biggest pool a single character can earn on its own.
Dungeons: 3 points
One point each for defeating dungeon bosses in three level brackets: 15–25, 26–45 and 46–60. Run one dungeon in each band on the way to 60 and all three are yours. See the dungeons and raids guide for which dungeon fits which level, or browse every dungeon.
Raids: 3 points
- Defeat Onyxia. She isn't among the announced raids yet.
- Defeat all 13 bosses of Hyjal Summit.
- Defeat all 8 bosses of Barrow Deeps.
Hyjal Summit and Barrow Deeps open on December 9, 2026.
Adventure: 2 points
- Fully explore the world map.
- Complete the Lord Valthalak questline.
How fast you reach 16
A main that levels to 60 (3 points), takes two crafting professions to 300 (6 points), clears a dungeon in each bracket (3 points), explores the world (1 point) and finishes the Lord Valthalak chain (1 point) has 14 points before a single raid or battleground. Onyxia and the two new raids bring that to 17, past the per-character cap, once they open. PvP-minded players get there faster: the 12 PvP points alone cover most of it.
Every new class you take to 25 is a free point, and 45 is a second. Two alts to 45 add 4 points, more than all three raids combined. If your main is stuck at 12 or 13 points, level an alt.
Professions tree
The gatherer's and crafter's tree: more rare materials, faster skill-ups, cheaper vendors and extra results from Cooking and Fishing. It holds 23 points of perks, more than one character can buy, so pick what matches your professions.
Perks with a points requirement need that many points spent in the Professions tree first. Perks with a prerequisite need the named perk at max rank first.
Master Chef
Master Chef, 5 ranks. Requires 5 points spent in Professions.
Your Cooking recipes have a chance to create an extra result: 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% or 50%. At 5/5, half of your cooking creates a bonus result.
Working Overtime
Working Overtime, 5 ranks. No requirement.
Raises your chance to gain a skill point from any primary, secondary or class-based tradeskill by 4%, 8%, 12%, 16% or 20%. It works on Cooking, First Aid and Fishing too, and on every crafting profession you level. It is the best perk in the tree for anyone leveling professions on a new character.
Bartering
Bartering, 2 ranks. Requires 5 points spent in Professions.
Cuts the gold price of everything you buy from vendors by 5% or 10%. That covers reagents, vendor recipes, ammunition, food and water.
Dedicated Study
Dedicated Study, 1 rank. Requires Bartering 2/2 and 10 points spent in Professions.
An ability you cast once a day: it raises your lowest Primary or Secondary tradeskill by 1. Once both your primary professions and all three secondary skills are at 300, it gives you 2 to 4 of a random Elemental Essence instead.
Bountiful Harvest
Bountiful Harvest, 5 ranks. No requirement.
You discover 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% or 100% more Scarce materials from Mining, Herbalism and Skinning. At 5/5 you find twice as many Scarce materials. Every gatherer takes this first.
Performance Bonus
Performance Bonus, 3 ranks. Requires Bountiful Harvest 5/5 and 5 points spent in Professions.
Gives you a 5%, 10% or 15% chance to earn 100% more Merchant's Favor when you turn in a crate to the Azeroth Commerce Authority or Durotar Supply and Logistics.
Luremaster
Luremaster, 2 ranks. Requires 5 points spent in Professions.
While you fish with a Lure active, you get a 25% or 50% chance to catch an extra fish. Pair it with Master Chef on a character that feeds the raid.
Adventure tree
The leveling tree: faster rested experience, up to five early talent points, free health and mana between kills, cheaper flights and quicker bandages. It holds 23 points of perks, more than one character can buy, so a leveling character has to choose.
High Alert
High Alert, 2 ranks. Requires 5 points spent in Adventure.
You detect nearby stealthed targets as if you were 1 or 2 levels higher. It doesn't work in battlegrounds, so its value is in world PvP on the PvP ruleset.
Well Rested
Well Rested, 5 ranks. No requirement.
Your rested experience builds 4%, 8%, 12%, 16% or 20% faster, and your rested cap rises by the same amount. At 5/5, every night logged out in an inn gives you a fifth more double-experience kills the next day. It is also the gateway to Talented.
Talented
Talented, 5 ranks. Requires Well Rested 5/5 and 5 points spent in Adventure.
You start gaining talent points earlier: at level 9, 8, 7, 6 or 5 instead of 10, one level earlier per rank. You still can't go over 51 total talent points. At 5/5 you get your first talent point at level 5, stay five points ahead of a normal character until level 55, and reach 51 points at level 55. Every milestone talent, from the 11-point pick to the capstone, arrives five levels early.
Thrill of Adventure
Thrill of Adventure, 5 ranks. No requirement.
Every killing blow on a non-trivial enemy restores 1%, 2%, 3%, 4% or 5% of your maximum health and mana over 10 seconds. It doesn't work in dungeons, raids or battlegrounds. In the open world, 5/5 turns a chain of kills into a chain of free top-ups and cuts your eating and drinking.
Field Guide
Field Guide, 3 ranks. Requires 5 points spent in Adventure.
Cuts the cooldown on adding features to your camp by 8%, 17% or 25%, so your next crafting station or buff object goes down sooner.
Frequent Flier
Frequent Flier, 1 rank. Requires Field Guide 3/3 and 10 points spent in Adventure.
Flight paths cost you half as much, and your flight path mount flies 20% faster. On a leveling character that crosses a continent several times per level band, it saves both gold and minutes.
Field Medicine
Field Medicine, 2 ranks. Requires 5 points spent in Adventure.
Cuts the duration of Recently Bandaged by 5 or 10 seconds each time you bandage. It doesn't work in dungeons, raids or battlegrounds. For classes that can't heal themselves, bandages come back 10 seconds sooner between pulls.
Resourcefulness tree
The endgame tree: Honor, reputation, longer food and group buffs, no vendor reagents, and a cheaper death. It holds 23 points of perks, and it's where a level 60 character spends most of its 16.
For Great Honor
For Great Honor, 5 ranks. Requires 5 points spent in Resourcefulness.
Increases the Honor Points you gain by 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% or 10%. For a PvP player that is 10% more Honor from every battleground you play.
Gourmand
Gourmand, 3 ranks. No requirement.
The beneficial effects of food last 33%, 67% or 100% longer. At 3/3, one Well Fed buff lasts twice as long, so you eat half as much food through a raid night or a battleground session.
Permanence
Permanence, 2 ranks. Requires Gourmand 3/3 and 5 points spent in Resourcefulness.
Your class abilities that give long-duration stat or attribute buffs to your whole party or raid last 50% or 100% longer. The same bonus applies to the benefits you gain from resting at a camp. At 2/2 you rebuff half as often, and your camp buffs last twice as long.
The Quick and the Dead
The Quick and the Dead, 2 ranks. No requirement.
You run 5% or 10% faster as a ghost. After you're resurrected, your helpful spells and abilities cost nothing for 1 or 2 minutes, or until you enter combat. After a raid wipe, a healer with 2/2 heals the whole group back up and rebuffs for free.
Reagent Economy
Reagent Economy, 1 rank. Requires The Quick and the Dead 2/2 and 10 points spent in Resourcefulness.
Your class abilities no longer need reagents that vendors sell. Every class-reagent run to the vendor, and every stack of reagents taking up bag space, is gone.
Reinforce
Reinforce, 5 ranks. No requirement.
You lose 8%, 16%, 24%, 32% or 40% less durability when you die. It pays for itself on progression nights with a lot of wipes.
Diplomat
Diplomat, 5 ranks. Requires 5 points spent in Resourcefulness.
Increases all reputation you gain by 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% or 10%. That includes the battleground factions whose Exalted rank is worth Legacy Points.
Best builds
Every build below spends exactly 16 points and meets every requirement. Buy the perks in the order listed and each requirement is already met when you reach it.
Leveling build
The build for every character from 1 to 60. It puts all 16 points in Adventure.
- Well Rested 5/5 (5 points spent): 20% faster rested experience and a 20% larger rested cap.
- Talented 5/5 (10): talent points from level 5, and all 51 by level 55.
- Thrill of Adventure 5/5 (15): 5% health and mana back after every kill.
- Field Medicine 1/2 or High Alert 1/2 (16): Recently Bandaged ends 5 seconds sooner, or you spot stealthed enemies as if you were one level higher. Take Field Medicine on a class that can't heal itself and High Alert on the PvP ruleset.
Total: 5 + 5 + 5 + 1 = 16.
If you only have a few points early on, spend them in this order. Well Rested comes first because Talented needs it at 5/5 and 5 points spent in Adventure.
The Frequent Flier trade-off. Talented 5/5, Frequent Flier and Thrill of Adventure 5/5 don't all fit in 16 points. Frequent Flier needs Field Guide 3/3 and 10 points spent, so it costs 4 points on top of the 10 in Well Rested and Talented. The flier version:
- Well Rested 5/5 (5 points spent).
- Talented 5/5 (10).
- Field Guide 3/3 (13): 25% shorter camp cooldown.
- Frequent Flier 1/1 (14): half-price flights on a 20% faster flight mount.
- Thrill of Adventure 2/5 (16): 2% health and mana back after every kill.
Total: 5 + 5 + 3 + 1 + 2 = 16.
You give up 3% health and mana per kill and the flex point for cheaper, faster flights. Take it on a character that flies between continents a lot; keep the main build for a character that grinds and quests in one zone at a time.
Professions and gold build
The build for a gatherer, a crafter or an alt that pays for everyone else. All 16 points go in Professions.
- Bountiful Harvest 5/5 (5 points spent): twice the Scarce materials from Mining, Herbalism and Skinning.
- Working Overtime 5/5 (10): 20% better skill-up chance on every tradeskill.
- Bartering 2/2 (12): 10% off at every vendor.
- Dedicated Study 1/1 (13): a free skill point every day, then Elemental Essences at 300.
- Performance Bonus 3/3 (16): a 15% chance at double Merchant's Favor on crate turn-ins.
Total: 5 + 5 + 2 + 1 + 3 = 16.
Cook and fisher variant, for a character whose professions are already maxed:
- Bountiful Harvest 5/5 (5 points spent).
- Bartering 2/2 (7).
- Master Chef 5/5 (12): half of your cooking creates a bonus result.
- Dedicated Study 1/1 (13).
- Luremaster 2/2 (15): a 50% chance at an extra fish while a Lure is active.
- Performance Bonus 1/3 (16): a 5% chance at double Merchant's Favor on crate turn-ins.
Total: 5 + 2 + 5 + 1 + 2 + 1 = 16.
Endgame PvE build
The build for a level 60 character that raids and runs dungeons. All 16 points go in Resourcefulness.
- Gourmand 3/3 (3 points spent): food buffs last twice as long.
- The Quick and the Dead 2/2 (5): free heals and rebuffs for 2 minutes after a resurrection.
- Diplomat 5/5 (10): 10% more reputation for every faction you grind at 60.
- Permanence 2/2 (12): your group buffs and camp benefits last twice as long.
- Reagent Economy 1/1 (13): no more vendor reagents for your class abilities.
- Reinforce 3/5 (16): 24% less durability loss on every wipe.
Total: 3 + 2 + 5 + 2 + 1 + 3 = 16.
PvP build
The build for a character that lives in battlegrounds and chases the PvP ranks. All 16 points go in Resourcefulness.
- Gourmand 3/3 (3 points spent): food buffs last twice as long.
- The Quick and the Dead 2/2 (5): 10% faster corpse runs and free heals after you're resurrected.
- For Great Honor 5/5 (10): 10% more Honor.
- Diplomat 3/5 (13): 6% faster reputation with the battleground factions.
- Permanence 2/2 (15): your group buffs last twice as long.
- Reagent Economy 1/1 (16): no vendor reagents.
Total: 3 + 2 + 5 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 16.
A perk's points requirement counts only points spent in its own tree. Ten points in Adventure don't unlock Reagent Economy. That's why every build above stays in one tree: splitting 16 points across two trees rarely reaches the 10-point perks in either.
Legacy rewards
Legacy Rewards unlock from the total number of Legacy Points your account has earned, not from the points a character spends. They are cosmetic, and every character on the account can use them.
- 15 points: Holstered Replica Ironforge Air Rifle, a toy for friendly shootouts on a 10-second cooldown. It hands you a Replica Ironforge Air Rifle for an hour, which can stun other players who also have one equipped.
- 25 points: Spectral Bear Cub, a companion pet.
- 40 points: Spectral Bear Tabard.
- 55 points: Reins of the Spectral Bear, an account-wide epic mount. It requires level 60 and Journeyman Riding.
55 points is a long road: well past what one character earns alone. It takes several classes at 45 or 60 and several crafting professions at 300, on top of dungeons, raids and PvP.
Tips
For most players, your first point comes at 25. Every character you create after that starts with the account's points already available, so a fresh alt levels with Well Rested and Talented from level 1.
Take two crafting professions on your main. Gathering professions give no Legacy Points. Two crafting professions at 300 are worth 6 points; a gatherer pair is worth none. Put your gathering on an alt running the gold build.
Buy Talented right after Well Rested. Each rank moves your first talent point a level earlier. At 5/5 you are five points ahead from level 9 to 55, and every milestone talent arrives five levels early. With 10 points, spend them on Well Rested 5/5 and Talented 5/5 before anything else.
Explore as you level. Full world-map exploration is a Legacy Point and one of the three ways to unlock the system. Detour into every subzone you pass and it's done before 60.
Save Dedicated Study for your lowest skill. It always raises the lowest of your Primary and Secondary tradeskills. Cast it every day on an alt that is still leveling Cooking, First Aid or Fishing: it is one free skill point per cast, on whichever skill is furthest behind.
