Overview

World of Warcraft: Forever is Blizzard's reworked Classic. It keeps the original Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, the level 60 cap and the Classic talent trees, then rebuilds nearly everything on top of them: races, racials, talents, spells, stats, items, professions and the world itself. The story picks up after Warcraft III: Reforged's Forsaken Kingdom campaign and before Molten Core.

Forever launches on November 4, 2026, with the level cap at 60 from day one. It is included with a World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time, except the Skyborne, which need a Heroic or higher Forever pack. The raids follow on December 9, 2026.

If you know Classic, you know the shape of the game. This guide covers what's different, so you walk in on launch day knowing which habits to keep and which to drop.

The short list
  • A new race, the Skyborne, and six new race and class combinations.
  • Every race has two active and two passive racials, most of them new or reworked.
  • A new talent milestone at 16 points, and Classic's buff talents made baseline.
  • One Hit stat and one Crit stat for melee, ranged and spells.
  • Nine new dungeons, two new raids, new zones and over 1,000 new quests.
  • Camping, over 600 new recipes, and the account-wide Legacy system.

Races and classes

Forever has the nine Classic classes: Druid, Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock and Warrior. What changes is who can play them.

The Skyborne

The Skyborne are Forever's new playable race, descendants of Highborne exiles who made a pact with the wind spirits and built a civilization in Skywall, the elemental plane of air. Each faction gets its own version:

  • High Order Skyborne (Alliance): Druid, Hunter, Mage, Rogue or Warrior.
  • Windshaper Skyborne (Horde): Druid, Hunter, Rogue, Shaman or Warrior.

Skyborne access is tied to Heroic and higher Forever packs; the other races require a subscription. Both versions start on Zephras Isle, a new starting zone for levels 1–12, where the air spirits that protected the Skyborne have disappeared and their ancient structures are failing.

Both versions share three racials:

  • Walk on Air: glide through the air for 10 seconds, steering as you fall (2-minute cooldown).
  • Wind Blessed: +1% Haste for spells, melee and ranged attacks.
  • Elemental Insight: +5% damage against Elementals.

Each faction adds one racial of its own:

  • High Order only: Read Ley Line doubles your health and mana regeneration. It lasts 15 seconds, or 15 minutes when you cast it near a ley line.
  • Windshaper only: Skysight gives you 10% movement and mounted speed. It lasts 30 seconds, or 15 minutes when you cast it near an elemental convergence.

Six new race and class combinations

  • Human Hunter
  • Dwarf Shaman
  • Gnome Priest
  • Orc Mage
  • Troll Warlock
  • Undead Paladin, the Horde's first Paladin.

The racial overhaul

Every race now has exactly two active and two passive racials. Old weapon skill bonuses became critical strike chance, and every race gained something new. The standouts:

  • Human: Sword Specialization gives +2% critical strike chance with every spell and attack while you hold a sword or two-handed sword. Will to Survive breaks every stun on you (3-minute cooldown).
  • Dwarf: Stoneform removes and blocks every Bleed, Poison and Disease and cuts Physical damage taken by 10% for 8 seconds. Mace Specialization adds +1% critical strike chance with a mace, and Big Game Hunter adds 5% damage against Beasts.
  • Night Elf: Elune's Light gives +10% critical strike chance for 15 seconds every 3 minutes. Shadowmeld now works in combat, where it discourages enemies from attacking you. Wisp Spirit moves 75% faster.
  • Gnome: Escape Artist breaks every movement-impairing effect and makes you immune to them for 3 seconds. Eureka! makes your next three damaging abilities cost 10% less and deal 10% more damage, in a version for each Gnome class.
  • Orc: Blood Fury now raises Attack Power and Spell Power by 10% for 15 seconds, with no healing penalty. Shatter Curse removes and blocks every Curse and Bane and cuts Magical damage taken by 15% for 8 seconds. Axe Specialization is +1% critical strike chance with an axe.
  • Undead: Will of the Forsaken now removes Charm, Fear and Sleep instantly. Cannibalize restores mana as well as health. Touch of the Grave gives your spells and attacks a chance to drain health from the target: 10% for Priests, Mages and Warlocks, 5% for Warriors, Paladins and Rogues.
  • Tauren: Endurance now adds +1% hit on top of 5% health. Plainsrunning builds up to 30% movement speed while you keep moving. Cultivation grows a duplicate herb you can pick without Herbalism.
  • Troll: Rapid Regeneration regenerates 50% of your health over 6 seconds (3-minute cooldown), and Regeneration keeps 10% of your health regeneration running in combat.

Talents and abilities

Talent trees keep Classic's layout and row count, but the talents inside them changed. Every class has new talents, reworked ones and new capstones.

The 16-point milestone

Classic trees had their big talents at 11, 21 and 31 points. Forever adds a new milestone at 16 points, so every tree has another build-defining pick in the middle.

Buff talents are now baseline

Three talents that used to cost a spec its points are now part of the class:

  • Divine Spirit for every Priest, lasting an hour.
  • Blessing of Kings for every Paladin, lasting an hour instead of 5 minutes.
  • Improved Mark of the Wild for every Druid, so Mark of the Wild and Gift of the Wild are stronger without spending a talent point.

A raid no longer needs a specific spec for its core buffs.

Heal-over-time spells can crit

Rejuvenation, Renew, Riptide, Wild Growth and Tranquility can all land critical heals. On the damage side, Survival's Lacerating Strikes bleed can crit too. Critical Strike is now a real stat for healers who lean on HoTs.

Stats and gear

One Hit stat, one Crit stat

Spell, melee and ranged Hit are now a single stat, and so is Critical Strike. Every point of Hit on your gear works for every attack and spell you use. Hybrids win the most: a Retribution Paladin or Enhancement Shaman gets full value from Hit and Crit on both weapon attacks and spells. Warriors, Hunters and Rogues also land Taunts, Poisons and Traps more reliably.

Healing gear deals damage

Gear with bonus healing now also gives bonus damage equal to a third of its healing value. A healer's gear levels a healer faster, and a hybrid's healing set still kills things.

Weapon Skill matters less

Weapon Skill works as it always did, but items give much less of it per piece. It's no longer the stat that decides a best-in-slot weapon. Some items now reduce the chance that your attacks are dodged or parried instead.

Caster weapons scale as you level

Spellcaster weapons now carry Spell Power on their leveling upgrades, so casters get the same "new weapon, big jump" moments that melee classes always had.

Trinkets are situational

Many trinkets now have effects tied to an environment or a creature type: woodlands, mountains, deserts, or a specific kind of enemy. Keep a couple in your bags and swap them for the content you're doing.

Wands don't scale with Spell Power

Wands no longer gain damage from your Spell Power. Buy them on damage per second alone.

Class highlights

Warrior

Rage is normalized: it comes from your weapon's speed, not from the damage you deal, and a critical auto-attack gives no extra Rage. Victory Rush is baseline, and the passive Tactical Mastery keeps up to 10 Rage when you change stances. Arms gets Weaponmaster, a talent that gives axes and polearms crit, maces and staves armor penetration and swords extra attacks, plus Spearing Strike. Protection's Vanguard lets you Charge in Defensive Stance.

Guides: Arms, Fury, Protection, Warrior leveling.

Paladin

A full kit rework. Holy Strike is a baseline instant Holy strike from level 6 on a 10-second cooldown. Judgement no longer consumes your Seal. Seal of Fury is a tanking Seal that adds Holy damage to your swings, and half of it becomes an absorb shield while you wear a shield, and its Judgement is the Paladin's first taunt. Consecration is baseline at level 20. Holy gets Light's Vigil and Retribution gets Twist of Light.

Guides: Holy, Protection, Retribution, Paladin leveling.

Hunter

Aimed Shot is a baseline shot for every Hunter from level 20. Beast Mastery gets Summon Hawk, a hawk that dive-bombs your target. Marksmanship gets Lone Wolf for 20% more damage with no pet out, and the Sniper Shot capstone. Survival's Lacerating Strikes makes Mongoose Bite bleed.

Guides: Beast Mastery, Marksmanship, Survival, Hunter leveling.

Rogue

Assassination gets Mutilate, a dual-weapon strike that hits Poisoned targets 20% harder and awards 2 combo points, and the Venom finisher that raises your Poison damage by 30%. Subtlety's Cutthroat gives Backstab up to a 15% chance to let your next Ambush skip the Stealth requirement.

Guides: Assassination, Combat, Subtlety, Rogue leveling.

Priest

Discipline gets Penance, a channel that heals an ally or hits an enemy three times, and Divine Aegis shields for up to 15% of your critical heals. Holy gets Prayer of Mending at the bottom of the tree. Fear Ward is for every Priest race, not just Dwarves, and Divine Spirit is baseline.

Guides: Discipline, Holy, Shadow, Priest leveling.

Shaman

Elemental's capstone is Lava Burst, which hits 20% harder on a Flame Shocked target. Enhancement gets Maelstrom Weapon: melee hits stack up to 5 times to make your next Lightning Bolt faster and cheaper. Restoration gets Water Shield and the Riptide capstone. Call of the Elements drops up to four totems in one cast, and Totemic Projection moves your totems to where the fight is.

Guides: Elemental, Enhancement, Restoration, Shaman leveling.

Mage

Frostfire Bolt is a trained spell at level 40 that counts as both Frost and Fire. Frost gets Ice Lance, which deals 300% more damage to Frozen targets, and Fingers of Frost, a 15% chance on your Chill effects to make your next spells treat the target as Frozen. Arcane gets Arcane Blast and Missile Barrage, which gives your Frostbolts, Fireballs and Arcane Blasts a chance to make your next Arcane Missiles free and twice as fast.

Guides: Arcane, Fire, Frost, Mage leveling.

Warlock

Curse of Agony is now Bane of Agony, and Banes sit on a separate track from Curses, so you keep a Bane and a Curse on the same target. Demonic Sacrifice now sits 10 points into Demonology and lasts 2 hours, and Demonic Pact keeps it active when you summon a different demon. Affliction's capstone is Wrack. Destruction gets Bane of Havoc and the Incinerate capstone.

Guides: Affliction, Demonology, Destruction, Warlock leveling.

Druid

Omen of Clarity is baseline at level 20 and procs from spells as well as attacks. Nature's Grasp is trained at level 10 and roots the next enemy that hits you in melee. Feral gets Primal Bite and the Berserk capstone. Balance gets Eclipse, where every Wrath shortens your next Starfires. Restoration gets Wild Growth, and every Druid learns Revive, a resurrection spell.

Guides: Balance, Feral, Restoration, Druid leveling.

World

Forever keeps the original continents and fills them with new content: over 1,000 new quests across the whole 1–60 journey, on top of Classic's quests.

New zones

  • Zephras Isle (1–12): the Skyborne starting zone.
  • Riverglades (36–44): a new mid-level zone about the size of Stranglethorn Vale, home of the announced Krol'dok Stronghold dungeon.
  • Shen'dralas: a new zone south of Desolace.
  • Mount Hyjal: the new endgame zone, set after the Third War, and home of the Hyjal Summit raid.

The Wetlands and Desolace also get expanded content and new quests.

New ship routes

  • Stormwind Harbor to Auberdine: a direct ship between Darkshore and Stormwind, with no stop at Menethil Harbor.
  • Menethil Harbor, Southshore and Auberdine: one route linking the Wetlands, Hillsbrad and Darkshore.
  • Steamwheedle Cartel route: Tanaris to the Riverglades.

New battleground

Darkspear Islands is a new 15-versus-15 battleground for levels 30–60.

Dungeons and raids

Forever adds nine new dungeons, from the Hall of Thanes at level 13 to four announced ones that have no level range yet, and keeps every Classic dungeon. Two new raids open on December 9, 2026: the 10-player Barrow Deeps and the 20-player Hyjal Summit. More raids follow later, including a revamped iconic raid.

The dungeons and raids guide lists every instance by level and gives you a dungeon path from 13 to 60.

Professions and camping

Forever adds over 600 new recipes across the professions and every level range.

Camping

The Cooking Fire becomes the Basic Campfire, and every character can place one. A campfire starts a campsite, and the camp objects you and your group add give it vendors, repairs, profession crafting stations and buffs that last about an hour. Advanced camp objects come from Blueprint recipes that drop from specific dungeon bosses.

Camping turns every quest hub and dungeon entrance into a place to repair, craft and buff up, without a trip back to town.

Racial profession perks

  • Tauren: Cultivation grows a duplicate of a nearby herb that you can harvest without Herbalism. Each herb can be cultivated once.
  • Gnome: Engineering Specialization cuts the chance of your engineering devices failing or backfiring by 20%.

The Legacy system

Legacy is Forever's account-wide progression. You earn Legacy Points from 65 challenges: leveling each class to 25, 45 and 60, taking crafting professions to 150, 225 and 300, clearing dungeons and raids, PvP, and exploration. Each character spends up to 16 points on perks across three trees: Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness. The perks make leveling faster, professions cheaper and endgame smoother, and your account total unlocks a toy, a pet, a tabard and a mount.

The system unlocks with your first point, which most players earn when their first character reaches level 25.

The Legacy system guide covers every perk with its exact values and gives 16-point builds for leveling, gold and endgame.

Quality of life

Mounts

Riding works the way it did in The Burning Crusade: the mount comes with your riding training, so you pay once instead of buying the skill and the mount separately.

Addons

Addons are still supported.

Gamepad support

Gamepads get class flyouts for Shapeshift, Pet control, Aura and Stance, plus a Compact Action Bar, Fixed Party Targeting and modifier-swap controls. Your pet bar no longer overwrites the bottom action bar.

Two-part names

Characters now have a first and a last name.

Rulesets

You pick a ruleset per character when you create it, and it's permanent: moving to another ruleset means a new character.

  • Normal: the standard experience.
  • PvP: every contested zone is dangerous. An account can only create characters of one faction on the PvP ruleset.
  • Roleplaying: for players who want to stay in character.
  • Hardcore: "every decision matters and death carries lasting consequences." It opens after launch, and it's walled off from the rest of your account, Legacy Points and collections included.

Characters on different rulesets can't group for dungeons or raids. Battlegrounds do mix players from Normal, PvP and Roleplaying, but never Hardcore.
