Heal as a Discipline Priest in WoW Forever: Penance, Renewed Hope and Divine Aegis, plus a level 30 dungeon build and a level 60 raid build.

Overview
Discipline is the healer that prevents damage before it lands. In WoW Forever the tree finally has the tools to back that up: Penance is an instant-start healing volley on a 12-second cooldown, Renewed Hope gives your direct heals and Penance extra crit chance on any target with Weakened Soul and shortens that Weakened Soul, and Divine Aegis wraps every critical heal in a second shield. Add Soul Warding, which removes the cooldown from Power Word: Shield, and you shield more players, more often, than any Priest in Classic ever could.
Discipline is also the Priest's mana spec. Meditation, Mental Strength, Mental Agility and Inner Focus all sit in this tree, so a Discipline Priest heals through fights that drain a Holy Priest dry. At 60 you spend the spare points in Holy for crit and faster big heals, and you bring Power Infusion: +20% spell damage and healing on one player.
You level as Shadow and switch to Discipline for dungeons, or run the level 30 build if you heal groups from the start.
Strengths
- Strong tank healing: with Soul Warding you can shield a different player every global, Penance comes back every 12 seconds, and every crit leaves a Divine Aegis shield.
- Excellent mana. Meditation, Mental Strength, Mental Agility and Improved Healing all stack.
- Damage prevented is damage your raid never takes. Shields stop spell pushback on your casters too.
- Power Infusion: +20% spell damage and healing for 15 seconds on your best caster or yourself.
- Flexible: Penance also damages enemies, and Prayer of Healing reaches any group in the raid.
Weaknesses
- Weakened Soul still limits you to one shield per player every 15 seconds unless you shorten it.
- Less raw area healing than Holy. You have Prayer of Healing, but no Prayer of Mending, Holy Nova or Spiritual Healing.
- Penance is a 2-second channel on a 12-second cooldown. Moving cancels it.
- Your throughput depends on crits. With low crit, Renewed Hope and Divine Aegis give you much less.
What's new in Forever
- Penance (tier 5): a channel that heals an ally or damages an enemy three times over 2 seconds, on a 12-second cooldown. Trainers teach new ranks at 40, 50 and 60.
- Renewed Hope (tier 5, 5 ranks): Flash Heal, Binding Heal, Lesser Heal, Heal, Greater Heal and Penance gain 10% critical strike chance on targets with Weakened Soul, and each heal cuts Weakened Soul's remaining duration by 5 seconds.
- Divine Aegis (tier 6, 3 ranks): your critical heals leave a shield worth 15% of the heal for 12 seconds.
- Soul Warding (tier 4): removes Power Word: Shield's 4-second cooldown and cuts its cost by 15%.
- Twin Disciplines (new, 5 ranks): +5% damage and healing from your instant spells, such as Renew.
- Power in Light (new, 5 ranks): +10% Smite and Penance damage against targets burning with your Holy Fire.
- Holy Precision (new, 3 ranks): +18% hit with Holy spells.
- Meditation is 50% regeneration while casting at 3/3, Mental Strength is +15% Intellect, and Improved Power Word: Shield is +20% absorb.
- Renew can crit. Divine Spirit and Fear Ward are baseline for every Priest.
- Prayer of Healing heals the target and that target's party, so you can heal any group in the raid. Prayer of Fortitude and Prayer of Spirit now cover the whole raid.
Talents
The dungeon healing build for the levels 20–30 dungeons. All 21 points go into Discipline: a stronger and cheaper shield with no cooldown, the mana talents, and Penance at 30. You can shield the tank on every pull and still drink less often.
Split 21/0/0 · 21 points at level 30 · Open in calculator
Talent order
- Levels 10–14: 5/5 Twin Disciplines. +5% healing from Renew and damage from Shadow Word: Pain while you level.
- Levels 15–17: 3/3 Improved Power Word: Shield. Power Word: Shield absorbs 20% more.
- Levels 18–19: 2/2 Martyrdom. When a melee or ranged attack crits you, you gain Focused Casting: no pushback for 6 seconds. It triggers whenever a mob that reaches you lands a critical hit.
- Levels 20–22: 3/3 Meditation. Half your mana regeneration continues while casting. The core of every Priest healing build.
- Levels 23–25: 3/3 Mental Agility. Shields and Renews cost 10% less.
- Level 26: 1/1 Inner Focus. A free spell with +25% crit chance every 3 minutes. Save it for the big heal when the tank drops low.
- Level 27: 1/1 Soul Warding. No cooldown on Power Word: Shield and 15% cheaper. Shield the tank, then shield the mage who pulled threat, in two globals.
- Levels 28–29: 2/5 Mental Strength. +6% Intellect: a bigger mana pool and more crit.
- Level 30: 1/1 Penance. Three heals in 2 seconds on a 12-second cooldown. It is your best tank heal from here to 60.
Flexible points
- Pulling mobs off the tank with your heals, or losing whole pulls to stuns and fears? Swap Martyrdom for 2/3 Silent Resolve: 20% less threat from your heals and 10% shorter stuns, fears and silences.
- Running out of mana before the boss? Take Mental Strength at 27–28 and Soul Warding at 29. You wait out the 4-second shield cooldown two levels longer for a bigger mana pool sooner.
The raid healing build. 33 points in Discipline buy Soul Warding, Penance, Renewed Hope, Divine Aegis and Power Infusion, with every mana talent on the way. The 18 points in Holy buy 5% crit for your heals, a 2.5-second Greater Heal, 15% cheaper heals and a stronger Renew.
Split 33/18/0 · 51 points at level 60 · Open in calculator
Discipline: 33 points
- 5/5 Twin Disciplines: +5% healing from Renew and every other instant heal.
- 2/3 Silent Resolve: 20% less threat from Holy spells, which means all of your heals.
- 3/3 Improved Power Word: Shield: +20% shield absorb.
- 3/3 Mental Agility: 10% cheaper Power Word: Shield and Renew.
- 1/1 Inner Focus: a free spell with +25% crit, every 3 minutes.
- 3/3 Meditation: 50% of your regeneration while casting.
- 5/5 Mental Strength: +15% Intellect.
- 1/1 Soul Warding: no shield cooldown, 15% cheaper shields.
- 1/1 Penance: your core single-target heal.
- 5/5 Renewed Hope: Flash Heal, Binding Heal, Lesser Heal, Heal, Greater Heal and Penance gain 10% crit chance on targets with Weakened Soul, and each one takes 5 seconds off it. Renew and Prayer of Healing don't count.
- 3/3 Divine Aegis: every critical heal leaves a shield worth 15% of it.
- 1/1 Power Infusion: +20% spell damage and healing on one target for 15 seconds, every 3 minutes.
Holy: 18 points
- 5/5 Holy Specialization: +5% crit chance on your heals. More crits mean more Divine Aegis shields.
- 3/3 Improved Renew: Renew heals 15% more.
- 5/5 Divine Fury: Heal and Greater Heal cast 0.5 seconds faster.
- 2/3 Inspiration: your non-periodic crits raise the target's armor by 17% for 15 seconds.
- 3/3 Improved Healing: 15% cheaper Lesser Heal, Heal, Greater Heal and Penance.
Flexible points
- Healing a caster-heavy raid: move Inspiration into 2/5 Spell Warding for 4% less spell damage on yourself. Armor does nothing against spells.
- Threat is never a problem, and melee reaches you often: move Silent Resolve into 2/2 Martyrdom. A melee crit on you then gives 6 seconds without pushback.
Races
Best races
Discipline lives on Weakened Soul, mana and staying on your feet next to the tank, so the picks here differ from Shadow's damage races and Holy's Spirit and cast-speed races.
Alliance: Human. Human Priests learn Divine Grace: an instant heal on a friendly target under 50% health that also removes Weakened Soul, on a 10-minute cooldown. For a Discipline Priest, that is an emergency heal and an instant second shield on the same tank. The Human Spirit gives you 5% more Spirit, and Will to Survive breaks stuns every 3 minutes.
Alliance, runner-up: Gnome. Eureka! makes your next three heals cost 10% less and heal 10% more, every 2 minutes, and Expansive Mind adds 5% maximum mana. Contingency Plan wards an ally for 30 seconds; if their health drops below 35%, they gain a shield and a heal over 15 seconds.
Horde: Undead. Will of the Forsaken removes Fear, Charm and Sleep, the effects that stop a healer cold. Discipline wins through mana, and Undead is the Horde race that turns health into mana. Dark Sacrifice turns your own health into mana every 10 minutes, and Cannibalize restores health and mana between pulls.
Horde, runner-up: Troll. Berserking gives 10% casting speed for 10 seconds every 3 minutes, and Rapid Regeneration restores half your health over 6 seconds if nothing interrupts it.
All playable races
- Human: The Human Spirit, Will to Survive, and the Human Priest spells Divine Grace and Feedback.
- Dwarf: Stoneform to drop Poisons, Diseases and Bleeds, Mace Specialization for 1% crit with a mace, and the Dwarf Priest spells Desperate Prayer and Chastise.
- Night Elf: Elune's Light for 10% crit for 15 seconds, Shadowmeld, and the Night Elf Priest spells Starshards and Elune's Grace.
- Gnome (new): Expansive Mind, Eureka!, Escape Artist, and the Gnome Priest spells Confounding Flash and Contingency Plan.
- Undead: Will of the Forsaken, Cannibalize, Touch of the Grave, and the Undead Priest spells Touch of Weakness and Dark Sacrifice.
- Troll: Berserking, Regeneration, Beast Slaying, Rapid Regeneration, and the Troll Priest spells Hex of Weakness and Shadowguard.
Rotation
Before the pull
- Power Word: Fortitude on the whole party, and Divine Spirit on the casters from 30.
- Power Word: Shield on the tank right before the pull. The absorb soaks the opening hits, and the tank starts the fight at full health.
During the pull
- Keep Power Word: Shield on the tank. With Soul Warding it has no cooldown; Weakened Soul still blocks a second shield for 15 seconds.
- Penance the tank when they drop under about 70%. It heals three times in 2 seconds.
- Renew on the tank against steady damage, and on anyone who took a stray hit.
- Flash Heal for sudden damage, Heal when you have time for a 3-second cast.
- Shield anyone who pulls threat before the tank taunts it back.
Mana
- Drink between pulls, not during. Meditation covers you while you cast.
- Save Inner Focus for the moment the tank drops low: a free heal with +25% crit chance.
- Use Prayer of Healing from 30 only when three or more players need healing.
Dungeons for this build
- Blackfathom Deeps (24–32) and The Stockade (24–32).
- Excavation Site: Wetlands (24–29), Forever's new dungeon at Whelgar's Excavation Site. It is not open yet.
- City of Dalaran (28–33), Forever's new dungeon in Alterac Mountains. It is not open yet.
- Gnomeregan (29–38) and Razorfen Kraul (29–38).
- Scarlet Monastery (30–46).
The Deadmines (17–26), Wailing Caverns (17–24) and Shadowfang Keep (22–30) still need a healer in your early 20s, and they are a good place to learn the shield loop before Penance.
Tank healing
- Power Word: Shield on your tank before the pull and whenever Weakened Soul expires.
- Heal the tank with Penance on cooldown while Weakened Soul is on them. Renewed Hope gives Penance 10% more crit chance there, and every crit leaves a Divine Aegis shield.
- Fill with Flash Heal or Greater Heal on the tank. Each of those heals on a target with Weakened Soul cuts it by 5 seconds, so three heals take a 15-second Weakened Soul to zero.
- Shield again the moment Weakened Soul is gone.
- Keep Renew on the main tank at all times.
That loop is Discipline in Forever: shield, heal, heal, heal, shield. Your direct heals on a target with Weakened Soul crit more, the crits shield more, and your next Power Word: Shield comes sooner. Renew doesn't advance the loop: Renewed Hope ignores it, so it is your filler, not your engine.
Raid healing
- Shield players who are about to take damage, not players who already took it. A shield on a player at full health is still absorbing when the damage lands.
- Prayer of Healing heals the target and their party within 40 yards of the target. Pick the target in the group that took the most damage; you don't need to be in their party.
- Lightwell at the start of a long fight. Players click it to restore 1600 health over 10 seconds, up to five times.
Cooldowns
- Power Infusion on your raid's strongest caster during a burn phase, or on yourself when the raid needs heals more than damage.
- Inner Focus before a Greater Heal or Prayer of Healing. It's free and gets +25% crit chance, and every crit on your biggest heal leaves your biggest Divine Aegis shield.
- Racials: Berserking, Eureka! and Elune's Light go with Inner Focus when the raid takes a big hit.
Utility
- Fear Ward on the tank before a boss that fears. It lasts 3 minutes on a 3-minute cooldown.
- Dispel Magic removes two Magic effects from a friend. Abolish Disease cures a disease now and every 5 seconds for 20 seconds.
- Prayer of Fortitude, Prayer of Spirit and Prayer of Shadow Protection cover the whole raid for 1 hour, 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Stat priority
Dungeon healing
- Intellect
- Spirit
- Healing Power
- Stamina
At level 30 your mana pool decides how many pulls you heal before drinking. Intellect grows it and adds crit, and Meditation turns Spirit into mana while you cast. Healing Power adds to every heal and shield, and healing gear also grants spell damage at one third of its healing value, so it helps your Shadow Word: Pain while you quest.
Raid healing
- Healing Power
- Intellect
- Critical Strike
- Spirit
- Stamina
Healing Power raises every heal and every shield. Intellect comes next: Mental Strength adds 15% to it, and it gives you mana and crit. Critical Strike pays twice for Discipline: each crit feeds Divine Aegis and Inspiration, and Renewed Hope already gives you 10% extra crit on targets with Weakened Soul. Spirit works through Meditation. Take Stamina only until you survive raid-wide damage. Healers don't need Hit.
Gear
What to wear
Cloth with Intellect, Spirit and Healing Power. Dungeon healer drops and quest rewards beat vendor gear at every level. A staff or a one-hand mace with an off-hand both work: take the one with more healing.
- Intellect first. At 30 your mana pool is small, and every point of Intellect adds mana and crit. Mental Strength adds 6% on top.
- Spirit second. Meditation lets half of your regeneration continue while you cast, so Spirit keeps working in the middle of a pull.
- Healing Power third. Every point adds to your heals and your shields. Healing gear also adds spell damage at a third of its healing value, so it helps when you quest as Shadow between runs.
- Stamina when you need it. Take a Stamina piece over a small healing upgrade if mobs that reach you kill you before the tank taunts them back.
- Keep two sets. If you quest as Shadow and heal dungeons as Discipline, keep the healing pieces in your bags. Quest rewards with Spirit and Intellect serve both.
Keep Inner Fire on yourself. Its armor and charges soak the hits you take when a pull goes wrong.
Wands
You still quest between dungeons, so keep a good wand. Enchanters craft Greater Magic Wand at 13, Lesser Mystic Wand at 26 and Greater Mystic Wand at 30.
What you're gearing for
Cloth with Healing Power, Intellect and Critical Strike. Truefaith Vestments is a Priest-only chest with Stamina, Spirit and 73 healing power. Keep a set of Stamina pieces in your bags for raid-wide damage checks.
Consumables
- Brilliant Mana Oil on your weapon: +30 healing and 15 mana every 5 seconds.
- Flask of Distilled Wisdom on progression bosses: +2000 maximum mana for 2 hours, through death.
- Mageblood Elixir for 12 mana every 5 seconds for an hour.
- Runn Tum Tuber Surprise for 15 Intellect while well fed.
- Major Mana Potion on its 2-minute cooldown in long fights.
Professions
Tailoring and Enchanting is the Priest pair. Tailoring makes your cloth and bags from 1 to 60, and Enchanting disenchants what you outgrow and makes your leveling wands. At 60, Enchanting enchants your own healing gear.
Healers who raid spend gold on mana consumables every week. Herbalism and Alchemy pays for them: you pick the herbs and brew your own mana potions and flasks. Make that switch at 60 if you raid.
Group play and dungeons
Your job is to keep the tank alive, then everyone else, then yourself, and to fix problems before they become deaths.
- Shield the tank before the pull and whoever pulls threat after it. A shield stops a crit, and it stops pushback on the player's casts.
- Shield casters in raids. A shielded caster keeps casting through damage.
- Power Infusion is your biggest raid cooldown. Agree with your raid leader who gets it.
- Fear Ward belongs to every Priest now. Coordinate with the other Priests so the tanks and the main healers have one before every fear boss.
- Dispel. Dispel Magic removes Magic and Abolish Disease removes diseases. Call out which debuffs you cover so the other healers don't double up.
- Crowd control. Shackle Undead holds an Undead mob for up to 50 seconds. Psychic Scream scatters up to five mobs when a pull goes wrong.
- Buff everyone. Fortitude and Divine Spirit last 1 hour. Shadow Protection lasts 10 minutes and Prayer of Shadow Protection 20, so save them for Shadow damage fights.
Forever's first raids, Barrow Deeps (10 players) and Hyjal Summit (20 players), open on December 9, 2026. In a 10-player raid, bring every buff yourself: Fortitude, Spirit, Shadow Protection, Fear Ward and Power Infusion.
PvP
Discipline is a strong PvP healer. Shields absorb burst, Penance heals three times in 2 seconds, and Soul Warding lets you shield everyone around a flag carrier.
- Shield yourself first when you're focused. The shield stops pushback, so your next heal lands.
- Mana Burn drains mana from enemy healers and casters. It is a 3-second cast, so use it from behind a pillar.
- Psychic Scream on a 30-second cooldown is your peel.
- Undead break Fears with Will of the Forsaken, and Humans break stuns with Will to Survive.
Tips
With Renewed Hope 5/5, three direct heals or Penance heals on a target with Weakened Soul end a 15-second Weakened Soul. Renew and Prayer of Healing don't count. Heal the tank through their shield instead of spreading heals, and you shield them again sooner.
A shield on someone who isn't taking damage is wasted mana, and it locks them out of a better shield when the damage starts. Shield where damage is about to land.
Divine Aegis needs crits. Holy Specialization, Renewed Hope and Inner Focus are all crit. Stack them on the same heal on the same tank.
Penance cancels when you move. Start it where you'll stand for 2 seconds.
Prayer of Healing targets a group, not your group. Target any player and it heals their party.
Renew crits now. Twin Disciplines and Improved Renew both apply, so a Renew on the tank is never a wasted global.
