Overview

Uldaman is a titan vault buried under the Badlands. Stonevault troggs have overrun its halls, the Shadowforge dwarves are digging for its secrets, and at the bottom sleeps Archaedas, the Ancient Stone Watcher.

It's a long, winding run, and it carries more quests than any dungeon before Blackrock Depths: 29 between the two factions, from quick collection jobs to a necklace chain for each side. The bosses get tougher the deeper you go, so make sure your group can handle Archaedas before you commit to the full clear.

Getting there

The entrance sits on the northern edge of the Badlands, right by the Loch Modan border, inside the Uldaman dig site. Alliance players fly to Thelsamar in Loch Modan and ride south. Horde players fly to Kargath, on the Badlands' western edge, and ride northeast.

Quests

Uldaman's quests come in chains, and several continue inside the dungeon. Pick up what your faction offers before you zone in, and loot every quest item you find.

Both factions

  • Power Stones: 8 Dentrium Power Stones and 8 An'Alleum Power Stones for Rigglefuzz in the Badlands.
  • Solution to Doom: bring the Tablet of Ryun'eh to Theldurin the Lost.
  • The Platinum Discs: speak with the stone watcher to learn its lore, then activate the Discs of Norgannon. The follow-up takes a miniature copy of the Discs home: The Platinum Discs to the Explorers' League in Ironforge, or The Platinum Discs to one of the sages in Thunder Bluff.

Eric “The Swift”

Level 40Show on map: Eric “The Swift”

The Lost Dwarves are three elites, Baelog, Olaf and Eric "The Swift", and they fight as one encounter. Plan the pull for all three. They're humanoids, so crowd-control one if your group can, and kill the others one at a time. Each dwarf's own drops are on his card.

The Lost Dwarves asks Alliance players to find Baelog in Uldaman.

Tank

Hold every dwarf that isn't crowd-controlled, and keep them together so the group's damage lands where you want it.

Healer

Three elites spread damage around. Watch the whole group, not just the tank.

Damage

Burn one dwarf at a time, and never break the crowd control on the others.

Revelosh

Level 40EliteShow on map: Revelosh

Revelosh matters for more than his gear: he drops The Shaft of Tsol. Attach the Gni'kiv Medallion to it to make the Staff of Prehistoria. The medallion is in Baelog's Chest, where you fight The Lost Dwarves.

Place the staff at the Keystone in the Uldaman map room and the Seal of Khaz'Mul opens: that's the way to Ironaya.

Ironaya

Level 40EliteShow on map: Ironaya

Ironaya waits behind the Seal of Khaz'Mul. To open it, place the Staff of Prehistoria at the Keystone in the map room (see Revelosh).

She's a giant and a heavy melee hitter. Tank her facing away from the group, and keep everyone else behind her or at range.

Casters and healers want her Stoneweaver Leggings, cloth legs with Spirit, Stamina and Intellect.

Tank

Turn her away from the group before anyone opens up.

Healer

Stay at range, out of her reach, and keep the tank topped up.

Damage

Melee: fight from behind her. Ranged: stay back and let the tank hold her.

The Obsidian Sentinel is a construct that breaks off Obsidian Shards as the fight goes on. The shards aren't elite: let the tank gather them, AoE them down, then get back on the Sentinel. It drops the Obsidian Power Source that the necklace chains ask for.

Tank

Pick up the shards as they appear so none of them reaches your healer.

Healer

Watch anyone a shard reaches before the tank does.

Damage

Kill the shards with AoE as they come, then go back to the Sentinel.

The Ancient Stone Keeper is an elemental guardian of the vault. During the fight it summons Sand Storms to fight at its side. Anyone who stands next to a Sand Storm is slowed to a crawl and can't cast spells, so keep your casters and healer clear of them until they blow out. Pull the Keeper into a cleared space with room to move.

Its Rockshard Pauldrons are mail shoulders with Intellect and Spirit, a strong pick-up for mail casters and healers.

Tank

Pick up any Sand Storm that heads for your healer or casters.

Healer

Stay clear of every Sand Storm: next to one, you can't cast a single heal.

Damage

Casters: step away from a Sand Storm before you cast. Melee: stay on the Keeper.

Galgann Firehammer is an elite dwarf, and the boss to kill if you want a gun: he drops Galgann's Fireblaster. Clear the area around him first so he fights alone.

Grimlok

Level 45EliteShow on map: Grimlok

Grimlok, the Stonevault Chieftain, leads the troggs. He carries the Shattered Necklace Sapphire, one of the three gems both factions' necklace chains need, so don't skip him.

Archaedas

Level 47EliteFinal bossShow on map: Archaedas

Archaedas, the Ancient Stone Watcher, is the last boss. He sleeps until someone uses the altar before him. Once he's up, he keeps waking his allies: Earthen Guardians through the fight, and Vault Warders later on. The Guardians aren't elite, so AoE them or kill them as they come. The Vault Warders are elites and need a tank of their own.

Two-handed melee are here for Stoneslayer, his two-handed sword.

Tank

Keep Archaedas turned away from the group, and pick up each Vault Warder as it wakes or hand it to an off-tank.

Healer

Every add that wakes means more incoming damage. Keep mana for the end of the fight, when the Vault Warders are up.

Damage

Kill the Earthen Guardians fast, then get back on Archaedas. A long fight means more adds.

Trash and pulls

  • Stonevault troggs and Shadowforge dwarves are humanoids, so humanoid crowd control works on them. The stone constructs and elementals are not.
  • Pull casters and Shadowforge Sharpshooters around corners so they come to you instead of shooting from range.
  • Kill any Healing Ward a caster drops the moment it lands.
  • Uldaman is long. Clear what stands between you and the next boss or quest objective, and leave the rest.

Loot

Uldaman's loot climbs with its bosses, and the best of it comes from the last three. The standouts:

Tips

  • Loot the Shattered Necklace if it drops for you: it begins a quest, and the Horde's Necklace Recovery asks for it.
  • Grimlok's sapphire is one of the three gems both necklace chains need. Plan to kill him on every necklace run.
  • Keep Talvash's Phial of Scrying in your bags: Find the Gems uses it to contact him.
  • Combine The Shaft of Tsol and the Gni'kiv Medallion as soon as you have both: the Staff of Prehistoria opens the way to Ironaya.
  • Save your cooldowns for Archaedas. The fight gets harder as his Vault Warders wake.
