Overview

Razorfen Kraul is the quilboar's warren in the southern Barrens, a maze of giant thorn vines that grew where the demigod Agamaggan fell. Charlga Razorflank, the Crone of the Kraul, rules it, and every tunnel is packed with quilboar, their Death's Head priests and the beasts they keep.

Both factions have reasons to come. Two quests work for everyone, each side gets two of its own, and Horde characters pick up one more from Charlga's loot. The drops are strong for casters and healers, and there are good weapons for everyone else.

Getting there

Razorfen Kraul is in the far south of The Barrens, a short ride north of the Great Lift down to Thousand Needles. Horde players fly to Camp Taurajo and ride south.

The Barrens is Horde territory, so Alliance groups cross hostile ground to get here. Travel together.

Quests

Four quests are picked up outside, so grab them before you travel. Three more start inside the Kraul.

Before you travel

  • Level 26Requires 20

Both factions: take the Crate with Holes, the Snufflenose Command Stick and the Snufflenose Owner's Manual. In the Kraul, summon a Snufflenose Gopher from the crate and use the stick on it to make it search for tubers. Bring 6 Blueleaf Tubers, the stick and the crate to Mebok Mizzyrix in Ratchet.
  • Level 34Requires 29Alliance

Razorflank's Medallion for Falfindel Waywarder in Thalanaar.
  • Level 34Requires 29Horde

Razorflank's Heart for Auld Stonespire in Thunder Bluff.
  • Level 33Requires 30Horde

A pile of Kraul Guano for Master Apothecary Faranell in the Undercity.

Inside the Kraul

  • Level 30Requires 22

Both factions: escort Willix the Importer out of Razorfen Kraul.
  • Level 30Requires 25Alliance

Find Treshala's Pendant and return it to Treshala Fallowbrook in Darnassus.
  • Level 36Requires 28Horde

Starts from the Small Scroll that Charlga Razorflank drops. Take it to Varimathras in the Undercity.

The Death's Head Prophet guards one of the Kraul's better daggers: Thornspike, whose hits can hurl spikes at your target and one more enemy nearby. Clear his neighbors first and fight him alone.

Abilities

  • Summon Boar SpiritDamage dealers

Summons 1 Boar Spirit to aid the caster in battle for 4 min.

  • Chain HealCan be interruptedImportant

Infuses a wounded ally with healing energy that spreads to another nearby ally. The spell affects up to 3 targets, but the healing energy is diminished by 50% for each successive target.

The Death's Head Captain uses Dominate Mind to take control of a party member, and a charmed player turns on the group until the effect wears off. Stun, fear or Polymorph them instead of trading blows, and keep them away from your healer.

He also carries the run's best healer drop, Death Speaker Scepter: a main-hand mace with 68 healing, 28 Shadow damage and health regeneration. His other drops are cloth for casters.

  • Tank

Hold Jargba in place while the group handles whoever he charms.
  • Healer

Keep your distance from a charmed player and call it out, so the group controls them before they reach you.
  • Damage

Stun, fear or Polymorph the charmed player rather than burning them down, then go back to Jargba.

Abilities

  • Dominate MindImportantCan be interruptedMagic effect

A 2-sec cast that turns a player (not his target) against the group for 15 sec. Interrupt it, or dispel the player.

  • Shadow BoltCan be interrupted

His main attack: a ranged Shadow bolt, cast from a distance. Kick or silence it, or pull him around a corner so he has to come to you.

3. Roogug

Level 28EliteShow on map: Roogug

Loot (3)

Roogug is the third named quilboar in the Kraul. No quest asks for him, but he drops three blues: Geomancer Headdress, a leather helm with Spirit and Stamina, Roogug's Severed Head, a trinket, and Thornweaver Drape, a cloak.

Abilities

  • Summon Earth RumblerDamage dealers

Summons 1 Stone Rumbler to accompany the caster until dismissed.

  • Lightning BoltCan be interrupted

His main attack: a ranged Nature bolt, cast from a distance. Kick or silence it, or pull him around a corner so he has to come to you.

The quilboar overlord drops gear for tanks and two-handed fighters. The pick for damage dealers is Corpsemaker, a two-handed axe with Strength and Stamina.

Abilities

  • Calls for helpImportant

Pulling him brings everything within 15 yards, including the two Razorfen Spearhides beside him. Crowd-control one of the pair.

  • ThunderclapTankHealersMagic effect

Every 8 to 14 sec: Nature damage around him, and those hit move and swing slower for 10 sec.

5. Razorfen Spearhide

Level 29–30

Loot (1)

Abilities

  • Whirling BarrageTank

Inflicts normal damage plus 50 to nearby enemies.

  • Thorns AuraTankDamage dealers

Its aura gives thorns to it and its allies, Ramtusk too: every hit on them costs the attacker some Nature damage.

Agathelos is the Kraul's great boar, a beast rather than a quilboar. His Swinetusk Shank is a main-hand dagger with 39 spell damage and healing, a big upgrade for any caster or healer who can wield a dagger.

Abilities

  • Left for DeadImportant

Inflicts 200 damage to an enemy and forces it to feign death for up to 5 min.

  • RampageTankHealers

Every 25 to 31 sec: a hit on all nearby players with a 2.5-sec stun.

  • EnrageTankEnrage

Two enrages, at 60% and at 40% health, each lasting 2 min. He swings 60% faster and harder: save tank cooldowns for them.

Loot (5)

The Crone of the Kraul ends the run, and both factions want her dead: Alliance characters take Razorflank's Medallion for The Crone of the Kraul, and Horde characters take Razorflank's Heart for A Vengeful Fate. Horde players also loot the Small Scroll from her, which starts An Unholy Alliance.

  • Tank

Clear everything around her first, then pull her onto ground you've already cleared.
  • Healer

She's the last fight of the run, so spend your mana freely.
  • Damage

Save your cooldowns for Charlga. Nothing comes after her.

Abilities

  • Chain BoltCan be interrupted

Her main attack from range: a 2.5-sec bolt bouncing across as many as 3 players. Kick every one.

  • PurityImportant

Makes the caster immune to all attacks and spells for 2 sec.

  • RenewMagic effect

A heal over 15 sec on herself or a friend. Priests and shamans can strip it off.

Trash and pulls

  • The Kraul is a maze of thorn tunnels, and packs wait around every bend. Pull each group back to ground you've cleared so nothing else joins in.
  • Quilboar packs mix fighters and casters with tamed beasts. The quilboar are humanoid, so Sap and Polymorph work on them. For the beasts, use Hibernate or Scare Beast.
  • Kill Healing Wards on sight: for as long as they stand, they heal every quilboar around them.

Loot

The Kraul is generous to casters and healers. The standouts:

Tips

  • Tip

Take the Blueleaf Tubers kit with you: the crate and the command stick go back to Ratchet with the tubers.

  • Tip

Kill Healing Wards the moment they go down. A pack with a ward up takes far longer to kill.

  • Tip

Clear the way out before you start Willix's escort. Every pack you've already killed is one less threat to him.

  • Tip

Horde: loot the Small Scroll from Charlga. It starts An Unholy Alliance, and the chain continues on the Razorfen Downs quest list.
